Good morning Readers and welcome!
We had a public holiday on Friday (Woman’s Day) and on Thursday morning I went on holiday with three friends. We went to Plettenberg Bay (Plett) which is a 6-8 hour drive from Cape Town depending on the route one takes. My initial thought was: “it’s too far to drive that distance for such a short holiday”! Wrong!
Plett is situated on the Garden Route and the drive there is absolutely beautiful. Snow capped mountain peaks, mountain passes, farms, small isolated towns, lakes, pine forests, seascapes .. you name it … we saw it. The house we stayed in was situated up on a hill overlooking Lookout Beach and the lagoon. The view was majestic; people on the beach below were the size of ants. As I sat on the deck drinking in the view, peace and tranquility I couldn’t help but relate it to our business. Yes, when we work for ourselves, we never really escape from our thoughts – we are always scheming, plotting and planning!
A few thoughts:
- “How far is too far?” Sometimes a little job that possibly doesn’t pay all that well can lead to bigger and better things.
- We need to take a step backwards (or upwards) to look at things from a different point of view – it’s amazing what height does in terms of thought patterns – we see things completely differently, yet we are looking at the same things – just from a different angle or perspective.
- The journey is often as exciting as the destination (sometimes more so); this could be a blog post all on it’s own but is relevant here so I am including it.
- It’s liberating not being bogged down with possessions and irrelevant personal items – how much of what we do in our working day is relevant and improves our bottom line?
I could go on and on (I had loads of time to think) but we’ll leave it at that.
