Week 27 – Do what you say

Good morning Readers and welcome!   Thank you for your “Feedback” – it is appreciated!

I was supposed to have an operation on Wednesday.  Everything was planned.  My lift to and from the hospital was organised, clients were notified, work was squeezed in to both Monday and Tuesday and work was done over the weekend.  Then the unthinkable happened.  On Tuesday night I came down with flu.  The operation had to be postponed and I was furious and disappointed all rolled into one.

Lying flat on one’s back has some compensations as it makes you re-evaluate your life.  Added to this, one of South Africa’s beloved TV and Radio personalities died suddenly (Vuyo Mbuli).  On Thursday when I was at my worst with flu, the radio stations were paying tribute to him and I thought to myself … “what am I doing that will make a difference to someone else’s life?”  You see, what was said about Vuyo was that whatever he said he would do, he did.  How amazing to live a life that once you are “gone” everyone says:  “He/She lived his/her life well”!   There can’t be a greater tribute than that!

Then I thought about my V.A. business.  Am I DOING everything I SAY I will do to grow it into a successful enterprise?  Let’s be honest here .. the answer has to be “no”.

Note to self:  DO WHAT YOU SAY YOU ARE GOING TO DO AND DON’T PROCRASTINATE AS TODAY MAY BE YOUR LAST DAY.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.”

Week 26 – I hope to have planted a Forest!

Good morning Readers and welcome!

This week I want to tell you about how persistence mentioned in Week 10’s blog post paid off.   Here is a blow by blow account!

In August last year I sent out letters of introduction.  I received a reply from one of the recipients to thank me.  I followed up with an email to ask if they would mind being on my mailing list to receive occasional newsletters.  They replied that they didn’t mind.  I emailed back to thank them.  I sent out Christmas greetings and at Easter I sent out a newsletter.  Well I have just received and completed my first chunk of work that the client is happy with!

Hopefully this is the start of a good working relationship.   This client will not be a “regular” as in once or twice a week at this stage, but all little bits help and as their confidence in my business grows, so will the workload.

How exciting to plant a seed and watch a seedling pop out and then after watering it, watch it grow into a beautiful plant or tree.  In this case I hope I have planted a forest!!!

Do I love my business?  The answer has to be “yes”!!

Happiness is neither virtue nor pleasure nor this thing nor that but simply growth, We are happy when we are growing.

Week 25 – Don’t get down, Get Up!

Good morning Readers and welcome!

Thank you for your positive response to last week’s blog post.  A Facebook friend recommended a FREE e-book that I downloaded and read.  I would like to recommend it to you as it has loads of interesting ideas relating to last week’s post on “Fear”.  The e-book is called “The Flinch”  by Julien Smith.

Practising what one preaches is not such an easy thing to do.  Reading books and doing “mentally” is really easy but the challenge is putting the new-found knowledge into practise.

Another friend (yes I do have a few!) said to me:  “Don’t get down, get up”.  After eating my breakfast cereal that had a cup of tears added to it, I went to my computer and there was the email:  “Don’t get down, get up”.  I realised how stupid I was being, suddenly motored into action and attacked my marketing with a vengeance.  So the day started off with tears and ended up with a great feeling of satisfaction.   (As you would have gathered by now, my present dilemma is to do with marketing and expanding my existing client base)!!

There is a song called “Get Up Get Down” by Itchy Poopzkid (I kid you not)!  Here are some of the lyrics:

Will you go on like this or be aware
The grass is never greener over there

Get up, get up, get up – you’re hearts are beating
Get down, get down, get down and keep breathing
you’re fine as long as you are believing
It’s all there just go and take it
Live your life before you waste it

See you on line,
Lynne

P.S.  I have added a new contact form – hopefully if you don’t have a WordPress account it won’t matter so please leave comments.  I love reading them and respond to each one.

Week 24 – Fear

Good morning Readers and welcome!

How many of you are paralysed by fear?  Fear of rejection, fear of failure and even fear of success (yes, this is a real fear).  Fear is something that cannot be rationalised or explained away.  It is an unwanted and useless emotion that has no place in our lives and is a big time-waster!

If you are fearful, then you are not alone.

What to do about it?  Well that’s the million dollar question.  There are thousands of quotes on the internet about fear.  Here are a couple that I really like:

“Do one thing every day that scares you.”
Eleanor Roosevelt

“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”
Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

Personally, I am fearful, no terrified of rejection and also of failure.   It is something I have to work hard on every single day and it affects so many things especially marketing.  What my marketing mentor has taught me is this:  “What right do you have not to tell people about what you do and what you can offer them – you will be making their lives easier.  What is the worst that can happen?”

Mantra for the day:  I choose not to be fearful.  Fear has no place in my life.  What is the worst that can happen?

I would really love some feedback so please leave your comment in the space provided below.

“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.”
Marie Curie
