Year 2 – Week 6 – The Ripple Effect

Good morning, afternoon and evening depending on where you are!  I was going to post a blog that went like this:  “Sorry Readers, no blog for this week due to work pressure”!  Didn’t ever think I would say that, but it’s true.  Things have gone crazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzy!

For those readers who are struggling with getting their VA businesses off the ground and trying to find clients, I have one piece of advice that is working for me.  Join a regular networking group!!  If the Virtual Industry is not popular yet in your country as in mine (South Africa) then it is harder to secure clients.

I’ve been part of a group that meets once a week at 7 am each Wednesday morning a half hour drive from my home.  It’s not convenient but I bit the bullet and gave up my extra sleep to attend the group.  For people that know me you will know that I don’t do early mornings – don’t function until about 8 am minimum!!   However, this has been so worth it.

I started with my group mid September last year.  Two weeks ago I gave a 10 minute talk about my business – the Virtual Assistant industry – and haven’t looked back.  I touched on this last week and feel so strongly about it, that I’m mentioning it again.  JOIN A NETWORKING GROUP!!!  You won’t realise the impact that networking has on your business until you have been part of a group for a while.  Trust takes time to build up and my business is built on Trust.  I don’t get business “on line” much (have had a few nibbles though) as I am not a “techie” VA and quite frankly plug-in’s and all the gobbledygook that VA’s talk about “on line” is impressive but way beyond my technical capabilities.  I work with people “virtually” and “physically” and that’s how my business is structured.  To the techie VA’s, I have the greatest respect for you and all credit to you.  To those of us who aren’t tech VA’s, all is not lost.  Join a networking group!!!

To have people asking for advice and then turning those people into potential clients and then actual clients is so rewarding.   This has happened due to my breakfast group.

Have you ever thrown a pebble into a pond?  Have you watched the ripples?

When you drop any new idea in the pond of the world, you get a ripple effect. You have to be aware that you will be creating a cascade of change.
