Week 44 – who would have thought it? This week I’ve decided to tell you about my week with all it’s lumps and bumps!!
It’s been quite lucrative in many respects with a few phobia’s out the window and hopefully never to return!!
Firstly, I’ve been loaned a book that is a Directory of Architects throughout South Africa. As Architects are my target market I was needless to say, thrilled “out of my socks”! So, I started sending out my marketing letters and have done the first batch of 12. Those 12 were given a few days to read the email and then I phoned them. Yes, I did. Cold calling – yuck. Some people were ambivalent, some said “no thanks” and two responded positively. So 2 out of 12 – well you do the Maths – but personally I think that was a successful exercise. Just sent out 14 more letters and will keep you posted!!
Then this week I also attended my first breakfast meeting as a paid up member. It’s a privately run group, by invitation only, with each member representing a single profession. Needless to say, I am the only VA. I am also in the minority as a female which was quite intimidating and as for speaking for a minute about my business, well … I LOVED IT!! My heart was thumping outside of my chest and I felt sick and then stood up and spoke and once I started didn’t want to stop – talk about an adrenaline rush!!!! Received interest from some of the members who asked for business cards and was pleased as punch when I left an hour later to work for one of my clients. Oh yes, the breakfast was delicious!
I have also decided to structure my week so that I am not sitting mindlessly at my desk. We are warned time and time again of sitting behind a desk and it’s easy to get caught up in doing things that aren’t beneficial to growing our business. Have decided to structure my time carefully into blocks for client work, marketing, admin and time out. Oh and did I mention de-cluttering my house? Although it’s Spring here in South Africa it doesn’t feel like it. We have had more flooding and some snow and it’s absolutely frrrrreeeeeeeeeezing, but Spring is time for de-cluttering and that’s what I am going to do come what may!!
So, no lessons this week – just sharing a bit of myself with you! Have an excellent week!
See you on line,
