How many of you have ever gone whale watching? I’ve just come back from Hermanus which is one of our best whale watching spots in the Western Cape. Tourists and locals flock through to Hermanus during whale season to spot the Southern Right Whales breaching, lobtailing, fluking and generally having fun. There was I on Friday looking out at the beautiful Hermanus bay in the howling gale (at least it wasn’t raining) trying to stand on my feet without getting blown over trying to spot a whale. There are hundreds in the bay and I couldn’t spot a single whale. Not even a spout from the whale’s blowhole was visible. I thought that if the bay is full then surely if I hang around long enough …. so off we went for coffee and a light lunch at a restaurant overlooking the bay.
Eating a lovely brunch of flapjacks, bacon, berries and maple syrup I had a mouthful of frozen berries in my mouth and nearly choked when I saw an adolescent whale breaching not once but four times. What a beautiful sight!! This huge mammal (okay he was a teenager) lifted itself right out of the water and then crashed back again and did it four times – spellbinding!
This blog isn’t about whales but here is the lesson I learned.
I would like to compare the “hidden” whales to “potential” clients. How many times as new VA’s don’t we say: “I don’t have a single client” or “It’s so difficult to get clients” or “I’m marketing and getting no results”. I say to you: “Patience, patience, patience my friends”! The clients are there – in the bay – hidden and waiting for the right moment to meet with you – you need to be patient.
There is an old saying that goes something like this: “All good things come to those who wait – (patiently)”!
See you on line,
