Good morning and welcome to Week 5 of the incredible journey (not the famous book – just my journey)!
“Where’s the Boss?”. Well that is an excellent question!
I mentioned in Week 4 that I decided to split myself in two – Employee and Boss. This is a lot harder than it sounds! Not sure about you but don’t you find you always work better for other people than for yourself? Aren’t your papers and bank statements piled sky high and attended to on high days and holidays? i.e. never! At work this would not be tolerated. In a conventional job if work gets behind it results in explanations, counselling and sometimes disciplinary hearings! I am sure that when you put in a hard day’s work the last thing you want to do when you get home is sort through your papers and file them all away. What about correspondence? With the internet it’s a lot easier – a quick little message to a friend is not time consuming but back in the day we had to write letters and then post them off. Well these were done more or less twice a year; birthdays and Christmas. So what I found was that inventing “Boss” means that I think to myself: “How would I handle this if I was at work now?” “How professional should this letter be – I mean really … I am only working for myself”!
This “only working for myself” is this week’s kicker. “Who’s the Boss”?
More about that next week …
See you on line,
